Marion County Utilities RESCINDS precautionary boil water notice for Oak Run (7-23-17 / 9:21AM)

Marion County Utilities has RESCINDED the precautionary boil water notice for all 3400 customers in the Oak Run Community due to the 12” water main break that appeared to have been caused by a lightning strike. Homes RESCINDED are located in the Oak Run Community.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection standard survey requires two consecutive days of satisfactory bacteriological samples taken upstream and downstream of the loss of pressure. Following the satisfactory completion of the standard 48-hour bacteriological survey, the water was determined safe to drink.

Marion County Utilities personnel were able to affect repairs and put the damaged section of water main back into service and restore full water service capacity to the Oak Run Community.

Boil water notice in Oak Run (7-21-17 / 8:56AM)

Marion County Utilities is issuing a precautionary boil water notice for all 3400 customers in the Oak Run community due to a 12-inch water main break that occurred overnight. The water main appears to have been damaged by a lightning strike. County crews have isolated the damaged water main and have been working on repairs through the night. Crews anticipate completing repairs today.

Residents are being notified via media release and community news board posting. Utilities advises that all water used for brushing teeth, cooking, drinking, making ice or washing dishes be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use. As an alternative, residents may opt to use bottled water.

This precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey is performed and shows that the water is safe to drink. Utilities will test the water and notify customers by door hanger and interactive community notification calls when the precautionary boil water notice is lifted. Customers with questions should contact Utilities’ customer service line at 352-307-6000.
